Welcome to Distance Learning Center!

Distance Learning Center (DLC) is a non-profit corporation whose mission is to increase the number of underrepresented minority researchers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Medicine (STEM). DLC works to support its mission by developing innovative training concepts, implementing comprehensive programs, and fundraising to support programs for these underrepresented minority groups.

The DLC has created the STEMPREP Project, which starts students as early as the 7th grade in a longitudinal training regimen (10 years), where each summer they complete an internship in STEM.

Under the STEMPREP Project there are three intramural training programs:

  • The Physician Scientist Training Program (PSTP) designed to produce candidates for M.D. programs and M.D./Ph.D. dual degree programs
  • The Basic Scientist Training Program (BSTP) designed to produce candidates for Ph.D. programs in the biomedical sciences
  • The Technology, Engineering & Math Program (TEMP) designed to produce candidates for Ph.D. programs in bio-informatics, bio-engineering, and bio-statistics.

The DLC has also created and implemented an extramural annual scientific meeting, the Minority Trainee Research Forum (MTRF), to showcase the underrepresented minority talent in the national biomedical pipeline.
